Module Objective

The course aims to familiarize students with the advanced logic design techniques and programming methods of very large scale integration (VLSI) circuits with VHDL language. FPGA’s programming applications in combination with peripheral circuits are implemented in Laboratory.


Module Study Targets

Students who have attended the course can:
• Recognise simple or complex logic circuits.
• Understand the basics of FPGA’s.
• Understand the basic FPGA’s programming principles.
• Analyze and develop basic applications with the programming language VHDL.
• Develop applications to interface FPGA’s with peripheral devices.


Module Acquired Abilities

  • Analysis, design and study of logic circuits and programming in VHDL.
  • Evaluation of proposals on handling FPGA circuits, their planning when associated with other peripheral circuits.
  • Combining techniques for complex problems of logic circuits.
  • Knowledge of application development and cooperation ability to solve complex applications.
  • Ability to monitor the international literature and scientific developments.

Module Student Evaluation

Presence in lectures = 10%

Exercises = 15%

Presence in Lab = 25%

Exercise presentation = 25%

Written examination = 25%
